We give a short description of the route from Gauteng to Springbok, the main commercial centre of the Namaqualand region. Roads along this route are generally in good repair. As weather and maintenance scedules are out of our control, we suggest that you enquire locally on the condition of roads. PRETORIA / JOHANNESBURG TO UPINGTON (915/831km) From Pretoria, follow the N1 towards Johannesburg. At Centurion, take the N14 (towards Krugersdorp) but stay on the N14 to Ventersdorp, Coligny, Sannieshof, Delareyville and eventually Vryburg, the main commercial centre for this large cattle farming region. From Johannesburg International airport, follow the road to Johannesburg but turn north onto the bypass (marked Pretoria). Continue on the bypass, towards Roodepoort and then onto the N12 to Potchefstroom. From there continue to Klerksdorp where you turn onto the R507 to Ottosdal and Delareyville. Turn onto the N14 to Vryburg. Next destination, Kuruman, main centre of the Kalahari region. Sishen with its large mining activities and finally the fertile Orange River valley and Upington.
UPINGTON TO SPRINGBOK (330km) From Upington there is a scenic section along the Orange river up to Kakamas. Do not miss Augrabies. At Kakamas, fill the car with fuel and stock up with provisions as the road does not seem to end before you reach Pofadder and eventually Sringbok.
